Do you think the term "planetfall" is roughly equivalent to the word landfall?
landfall definition... 1. The act or an instance of sighting or reaching land after a voyage or flight. 2. The land sighted or reached after a voyage or flight. 3. (Transport / Nautical Terms) the act of sighting or nearing land, esp from the sea
I'm guessing space travellers could use either the term planetfall or landfall as they felt appropriate to the particular situation.
planetfall definition... (Spacer term) the act or instance of approaching, entering orbit or landing on a planet from space
Does that definition work?

| Planetfall has beend used since the early days of Andre Norton. I have used it myself. I have fiction named Planetfall, and I use that as a variable in a videogame! I will support this as your addition to the Encyclopedia Galactica. |

I just added the words "or instance" to the definition. That makes it sound a little better.

| Just as long as we're not discussing planets falling on us. That would be bad. |

Let 'em fall. I'm almost done with my Death Star...
Of course I covered those exhaust ports and added some railing on the reactor platforms, you know --- just in case I trip on my own cloak I won't fall in or something like that. |

Why would the Emperor's private audience chamber have access to the reactor in the first place?
Oh, wait, never mind, I think I know.... |

| I was thinking more along the lines of being able to Force-chuck unwanted guests or failed underlings into an ongoing fusion reaction, but that works too. |

I have trouble getting minions to Force-chuck their tools back into the truck befor leaving the job site. Not that we have had many job sites lately. I wish I could find a nice little retirement Death Star in a quiet little galaxy somewhere. |

Then again, why should Palpatine use the dark side when he has guards to chuck his unwanted guests and failed minions in the reactor pit for him.
Cause everyone knows a true Dark Lord of the Sith manipulates others, rather than dirty his hands using his dark side powers.
BTW, why would you need exhaust ports? Couldn't the Death Star designers think to vent the exhaust through the ion drive/RCS thruster ports?
Or, at least stick some close-in defenses around the exhaust ports. |

"... The as yet UNFINISHED new death star..."

ANYWAY...
Yes Planetfall or going dirtside are the standard usages in Sci fi
BTW who else hates the new SyFy thing the aforementioned chanel uses now? |

| I searched for the term "SyFy" a moment ago. It seems that it is a cable tv channel. I looked at the programming list. Nothing interesting at all. I assume that "SyFy" is a term that means "Ghost and Vampire Shows". |

It is now.
(And, don't forget BSG spinoffs that are even worse than the idiot show they were spun off of)
Once upon a time, there was the SciFi Channel, which showed Doctor Who reruns, classic SF movies and shows, and even thirty-second Commlink FTL News spots throughout the day.
I miss the news shorts. |
